Graues Zifferblatt Rolex Oyster Perpetual

This is how you recognize a real or counterfeit Rolex

As fakes get better and more accurate these days, counterfeit watches are becoming harder and harder to spot with the naked eye - so hard that sometimes even watchmakers can't really tell fake watches from real ones at first glance.

Rolex has long been the number one most counterfeited watch. The most counterfeited models include the Rolex Datejust , Submariner and Daytona .

Below we will show you how to create one fake Rolex and of course vice versa real Rolex you might recognize.

The processing of the case of every original Rolex reflects its perfectionism. Even the smallest detail is carefully considered and finely processed.

Be sure to take a closer look at the sapphire crystal on the top of the case: the glass of a real Rolex should not be reflective. There should also be a small, barely visible laser crown at 6 o'clock. However, this can only be seen in a certain incidence of light. But : not all Rolex watches have this crown. Rolex only introduced this new security feature in 2002.

A very striking feature of a real Rolex is the Rolex logo on the winding crown. If this is missing, it is a fake.

A missing engraving on the back of a Rolex, for example, is unfortunately not a clear sign that it is a fake. Indeed, some Rolex watches are not engraved.

If a Rolex has a glass bottom on the back, you can be sure that this watch is probably fake. Because there is no Rolex with a glass bottom.

  • Dial and inscriptions

The best way to tell if a Rolex is real or fake is by looking at the dial and its inscription. Because: This is where most of the differences can often be found. But you have to look carefully, as these small but significant differences are often not easy to find.

If you want to check a Rolex for authenticity, compare it with original models. Here you can, for example, use images from the original Rolex website.

The inscriptions and/or signs on the dial are less precise on many fakes than on original models, and they are often not exactly centered. So take a close look - possibly with a magnifying glass.

  • The second/minute hand

A fake can also be recognized by the second hand. While the second hand of a real Rolex moves smoothly, you can notice a jerky movement of the hand on a fake watch.

You can also tell a real Rolex from a fake Rolex by the look of the second and minute hands.

An example : With the real one Rolex Daytona the minute hand is quite long and reaches up to the minute markers. If this is not the case, the watch is counterfeit.

One Rolex Yachtmaster has a thicker minute hand than all other Rolex sports models. Fake Submariner models often have the exact same minute hand.

  • No or wrong reference and serial number

Of course, as everyone knows, every watch has a reference and its own serial number. These numbers are immortalized in a very specific place. On older Rolex models, the serial number is very finely engraved on the side of the case between the lugs at 12 o'clock. That has changed with the newer models. Since 2007, the serial number has been on the rehaut at six o'clock. In addition, the lettering ROLEXROLEXROLEX is on the rehaut on newer models.

Definition Rehaut : The Rehaut is an engraving on the inner ring of the bezel or on the case ring, which can be seen when the watch is held at an angle.

If the watch presented does not have this number engraved, or if the engraving is somewhere else, very coarse or crooked, it is definitely a fake.
